Sapphire is a member of the corundum group, it occurs as semi-opaque masses and also in transparent to translucent prismatic or tapered crystals with close transverse striations. Sapphire appears as colorless, blue, pink, yellow, green, black and violet. It is composed of aluminum oxide.
