These very long mala beads are quite striking. They are made of water buffalo bone hand-carved to look like skulls and features a red rayon tassel.
A note about bone beads: Tibetan nomadic life is hard, and in the cold, there is little to eat. Water buffalo is a staple in Nepal and Tibet and when an animal is used for food nothing is wasted. These amazing bone beads are hand inlaid by artisans who recycle and reuse everything in daily life and spiritual practice.
A Japa Mala, or just "Mala", is a string of 108 beads that can be used to embellish or to count mantras repetitions. Mala beads are an ancient tool that was developed to keep the mind focused on the practice of meditation.
